Most of you will be see this yearly Advent Calendar for the first time. Here’s why:
This Website is the result of a long pondered decision to simplify production of my yearly Advent Calendar. For well over a decade it was done the hard way. A large picture for the year was prepared with certain edited in features (sky, moon, various people and objects added to the scene). Numbered ‘windows’ were applied onto the picture. Then 25 or more images of various objects were edited and scaled and cut to fit behind the windows. To pages were printed: one of the ‘front’ picture, one of the ‘behind’ picture. Many photo copies were made. On all of the front pages the windows were painstakingly cut open with a razor knife. Then the prepared front pages were aligned and glued onto the behind pages. The resulting products of my overambitious dedication could then be mailed to a couple dozen worthy people. There are significant disadvantages this approach: the considerable time and effort required to edit everything to fit just right and to cut, paste and assemble the finished masterpiece, the inherent tiny size of the hidden images, delays in production and mail delivery.
This new Web Based version solves most of these problems. Hidden images can now be large as desired for easy viewing, and no longer need be sized to fit the windows. There are zero costs for printing, copying and mailing. Best of all, the advent calendar can be shared without delay to as many people as I want!
Each year’s theme is based on some memorable scene from our yearly travels. There are whimsical additions and various memorable objects gleaned from the previous year’s life adventures. I hope these are of more interest than the typical generic sugar plum featured in traditional advent calendars.
